Unquiet Desperation Presents…

8 Oct

Friday 8 October 8pm onwards

Unquiet Desperation is a literature magazine that focuses on the underground artistic community, and organises events that aim to bring together fine music, art, poetry, photography and visual culture all under one roof, once a month. Below are details about their October event:

Featured Artists:

JESS FLOOD PADDOCK

“Her thoroughly thought out and often-witty work uses cement and other building materials to give a roughly finished look that can feel edgy and unsettling at times. Not having had any formal training in fabricating using these materials, Flood-Paddock has picked up what she can when needed, through, as she describes, “awkward conversations in DIY shops”. “(DAZED & CONFUSED)

(DAZED DIGITAL / CONVERSE EMERGING ARTIST SHORTLIST)- 2010

“Jess Flood-Paddock’s sculpture is centred in the solitude and dialogue of her studio practice, questioning the actions and objects of making in such a way as to dislodge the expectations attatched to weight, to gesture, to material. Without relying on perceptual games her table-top pieces fox the eye - assuming a monumentality beyond their scale” (STANDPOINT LONDON)

Jess Flood-Paddock trained at the Slade (BA Fine Art 2000) and the RCA (MA Sculpture 2005). Her work has featured in several group shows nationally including Transformer, Woburn Square, 2007; New Contemporaries, London and Liverpool 2006.

She will be displaying work on the night alongside other work by JANE FARAM, THOMAS GEOFFREY PATRICK BALL and LAURENCE HARBORNE

+ Music

MOUNT KIMBIE [LIVE]

Mount Kimbie add a percussive and experimental edge to the current class of post-dubstep pioneers. The band’s sound and response to the dubstep moment is very much their own. Having just supported The XX on their recent US Tour, the duo released their album ‘Crooks & Lovers’, a album both sceneless and untethered from etiquette and genre codes It floats through dubstep and hip-hop, jazz, techno and ambient, post-rock, UK garage and film scores to startling effect. http://www.myspace.com/mountkimbie

VISIONS OF TREES [LIVE]

Having just supported the brilliant Memory Tapes on their recent UK tour, Visions of Trees are an electro outfit from London town. Merging dark, progressive beats and haunting vocals, VoT sound like the crashing of night time tidal waves on moonlit shores. http://www.myspace.com/visionsoftrees

CRY OSAKA CRY [LIVE]

Beautiful electronic music from way down in the South of England, COC make sumptuous beach side beats for your aural pleasure http://www.myspace.com/cryosakacry
