Thrive, Not Just Survive is a new screenprinted billboard work that brings together images, text and graphics, both historical and contemporary, towards as part of an ongoing exploration of public representations of women.
Glasgow-based Helen de Main works in sculpture and printmaking, recently combining the two mediums within large-scale installations. For the Bloc Billboard she composes a collection of imagery across the length of the board, repeating elements to create patterns that reference wallpaper and surface pattern design.
Images sourced from research into the Women’s Movement and women’s groups are reprinted alongside graphic motifs. The works seeks to be active, energetic and optimistic, presenting images of women in a style often absent from public space.
