Picnic Picnic is pleased to present new work by German artist Benjamin Hirte in his first UK solo exhibition.

The exhibition marks the end of a one month residency in Sheffield during which time the artist produced all of the works for the exhibition.

Hirte uses a wide range of working methods and often employs a combination of objects and text in order to examine language, semiotics and metaphor within the context of specific cultural histories.

b. 1980 Aschaffenburg, Germany, currently lives and works in Vienna. Hirte studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Class of Heimo Zobernig) between 2006 and 2011 and has completed residencies at Cité Internationale des arts, Paris (2014) and MAK-Schindler Artists-in-Residence Program, Los Angeles (2013). Recent exhibitions include: Winter, Christian Anderson Gallery, Copenhagen (2014), ‘A to K’, Galerie Emanuel Layr, Vienna (2012) and The Classic Mob Ballet, MAK, Vienna (2012).

Picnic Picnic is a curatorial partnership which aims to showcase the most exciting contemporary artists in a series of exhibitions, residencies and events. Picnic Picnic’s first project is an International Residency and Exhibition Programme in which two internationally practicing artists are invited to participate in a one month residency in Sheffield (UK) resulting in a solo exhibition followed by a group exhibition curated by the invited artist. Throughout the exhibition there will be events, discussion groups and talks which will be open to the public and will provide an insight into the working methods of the artists during their residency.
