As well as promoting contemporary art exhibitions and events in the city, Art Sheffield runs a web based sector news, sharing exhibition opportunities, information on training, calls for proposals, and invitations to participate in activities hosted by Art Sheffield, its partners and other organisations.

Art in the Park - Call for Artists
Art in the Park is a community arts charity based in Sheffield working with professional artists to deliver a wide range of high quality, creative activities across the city and surrounding areas.

AitP rely on a team of committed, skilled artists to deliver their activities and are currently looking for a number of freelance artists to join the organisation in 2013/14. AitP particularly encourage applications from visual artists, 3D artists, poets and creative writers but are keen to see a range of applicants from diverse disciplines.

Current projects for 2013/14: Sacred Spaces and Micro-habitats.

Volunteer at Bloc Projects

Bloc Projects is run by a small staff team with the help of reliable volunteers. If you are interested in supporting Bloc with technical activity, fundraising, admin and archiving, photography, invigilating and general housekeeping, email info@blocprojects.co.uk with your availability and specific area of interest.

 

Opportunities to exhibit at The Milestone and The Wig & Pen

Celebrating the best of art in Sheffield, The Milestone and The Wig & Pen are looking for local artists to exhibit work in their restaurants using their dining spaces to show off local art to their guests.

The spaces lend themselves mainly to wall hung framed works however depending on dimensions other types of work can be considered. Exhibitions will be promoted by the restaurants’ social media outlets and on their website.

Call for Entries for the 4th Sheffield International Artist’s Book Prize at Bank Street Arts

The Sheffield International Artist’s Book Prize and Exhibition is open to makers of artists’ books in any format and from anywhere in the world. We have no desire to engage in discussion about what constitutes an artist’s book beyond clarifying that the prize is not concerned with books about art or artists, but books as art. This year’s prize is supported using public funding by Arts Council England and sponsored by the Open College of the Arts.

  • Free to enter
  • All books submitted for the Prize will feature in the exhibition.
  • A minimum of four winners will be awarded £2000

Closing date for entries: 31st July 2013
Exhibition dates: 5th October – 30th November, 2013

 

Call For Artists: Opportunities to exhibit at Forum Cafe Bar

The Forum are looking for new artists to exhibit in their cafe bar. Exhibitions usually last 6- 8 weeks and there is no commission on sales. The space lends its self mainly to pictures, paintings and glass pieces (flat/2D due to the nature and use of the venue) but a wide range of works can be accommodated (works are hung on chains). Exhibitions will be promoted on the Forum’s website, facebook and twitter blogs.

Bloc Projects Membership and Associate membership

There are now two ways to contribute to Bloc Projects, either by being a Member or an Associate member.

Membership: This level of membership is open for committed volunteers and those who work regularly for Bloc Projects. This means invigilating, working on the bar, helping to install and take down exhibitions and other technical or administrative work. This level of support is vital to the sustainability of the organisation. There is a nominal fee of £1. The benefits to membership include:

  • Opportunities to submit to the members show
  • Discounts on Gallery and equipment hire.
  • Training and career advice.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the running of Bloc Projects.
  • Opportunities to contribute in curatorial meetings.
  • Social and networking events including trips to other cities.

Associate Membership: Associate membership is open to everyone and costs £15 per year. You don’t have to be a volunteer or studio holder. The benefits of associate membership include:

  • The knowledge that you are supporting bloc.
  • A link on Bloc’s website.
  • Discounts on gallery hire.
  • Critical discussion and reading groups.
  • Opportunities to contribute at organisational meetings.
  • Social events.

Studios available at Yorkshire Artspace, Sheffield

Yorkshire Artspace is extending its studio base beyond its current 53 studios at Persistence Works in the city centre, with the provision of 36 new studios for artists and makers in different areas of the city. They are now calling for interest from new studioholders for three new sites across Sheffield. The developments are the result of exciting neighbourhood renewal projects in specific areas in Sheffield, strengthening partnerships with key organisations in those neighbourhoods, and the growing demand for studio space for visual artists and makers in Sheffield.

Yorkshire Artspace: Porter Brook Studios is in Sheffield City Centre (S1). Next door to Persistence Works, this well lit, well serviced, low cost temporary studio base with spaces on the 1st and 2nd floor, will be available on a short term licence basis.

Yorkshire Artspace: Manor Oaks Studios are in the S2 area of the city. These brand new, purpose built studios at Manor Oaks farm are being developed in partnership with Green Estate, in line with their sustainable agenda. The studios in this historical setting, close to Sheffield city centre, are particularly suitable for artists working in crafts or applied arts.

Yorkshire Artspace: Knutton Road Studios are new developments in Parson Cross (S6) in the north of Sheffield. These new, purpose built studios are being developed in partnership with Southey Owlerton Area Regeneration. All units are north facing and situated on the top floor with natural skylights. This complex is situated with easy access to the M1 and the A61North and the studios are particularly suitable for more quieter visual arts practices.

All artists within these new complexes will be part of Yorkshire Artspace Society’s membership, with access to communal facilities at the main building at Persistence Works, such as the meeting room and reception, participation in joint events and initiatives and access to business support services. Become an Associate Member of S1 for £10 and receive:

  • Invitations to exhibition openings, screenings and parties via post and email
  • Associate Member newsletter (3 times a year)
  • Acknowledgement of support on S1’s website
  • Opportunities to be involved in trips, tours and special activities, subsidised by Arts Council England and limited to S1 studio holders (Members) and Associate Members.
