S1 Artspace currently seeks an intern to work alongside the team at S1. We are looking for somebody to contribute to the development and administration of the current and forth-coming programme, assist with press and marketing activities, help with exhibition installations and contribute to general office administration.

Applicants will need to have good interpersonal and organisational skills, proficiency using Mac computers (Word, Excel, Entourage), a practical and independent approach - knowledge of contemporary art is desirable. You will receive one-on-one training and will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the running of a contemporary project space and studio complex.

This is a voluntary position and therefore unpaid however travel costs will be covered, all applicants must be based in the Sheffield area. The successful candidates will be available for one day per week 12 - 6pm, days are flexible but would need to be between Wednesday - Friday. The internship is for 3 months after which it will be reviewed. 

The forth-coming programme includes a solo exhibition of commissioned new work by Kim Coleman & Jenny Hogarth; the fourth artist residency to be selected this spring; Fifteen a project including exhibitions, off-site commissions and a publication to celebrate S1’s 15th anniversary and Further North, a collaborative project with no.w.here (London) which will provide four moving image based residencies in London for artists based in the north of England followed by a touring exhibition in partnership with Grizedale Arts (Cumbria) and A Foundation (Liverpool).

UNIDEE in Residence 2009 - call for applications

Date of residency: 15th June - 15th October 2009

During UNIDEE, the residents work on developing their proposed projects and actively participate in meetings and seminars held by representatives of the offices of Cittadellarte. The offices of Cittadellarte are: Art, Communication, Eco-architecture, Ecology, Economy, Education, Work, Nutrition, Politics, Production, and Spirituality.The offices work on bridging art and society with the help of experts in various fields: artists, docents, entrepreneurs, and researchers.

During UNIDEE 2009 the program will be based around the conceptualization, development, and discussion for the activation of a project of Social Responsible Transformation which will go on to become your own “Cittadellarte”.

The residents will have the possibility to concentrate on their idea, discuss their project, receive feedback, establish contacts, and encounter experts and artists who work in similar ways. Events at Cittadellarte such as exhibitions, conferences, performances, and workshops also represent an integral part of the UNIDEE agenda. During the residency the residents can have a Collective Experience of collaboration, development, and realisation of projects. The residents will have the possibility to work together for the preparation and realisation of an experimental event and share their conceptual and operational capacity. At the end of the four months there will be a public exhibition, UNIDEE in Progress, in which the development of the projects will be displayed.
